Ten Tips for Conferences

Conferences can be quite a dilemma, balancing costs, outcomes, opportunity and the inevitable social activities. Here are some tips for getting the most out of the opportunity presented at conference:

Conference games
  1. Remember participants remember less than 15% of what they hear but 80% of what they do for themselves - so get them involved.
  2. Games are an excellent way to energise a tired audience or kick-start the mornings. (Have you tried Dry Synchronised Swimming?)
  3. Choose games with outcomes that support conference learnings.
  4. Games do not need to be long to impart significant learning. (Have you tried Trusting Drivers?)
  5. Choose games that mirror conference themes.
  6. If at all possible, avoid alcohol at lunchtime.
  7. Know your audience and set an appropriate level of active participation to suit their needs.
  8. Participants tend to stay in groupings of familiar people. To increase networking before dinner, using a mixing activity. (Have you tried Cocktail Capers?)
  9. The vast majority of people are competitive, so introduce a competitive element.
  10. Make it fun - sitting still rarely falls in this category!

"The feedback since the seminar has been uniformly positive ... I was delighted with the way you were able to structure the debrief after the games to highlight topics that were discussed during the main body of the seminar ... the games were not only fun but also an integral part of the learning process. Congratulations on an excellent job. I'll contact you shortly with the dates of forthcoming seminars, as I definitely want you there."
